Amazon
has launched a currency converter on its US site allowing international users to
pay for purchases in their own currency instead of US dollars.
"Since the launch of Amazon in 1995, we have served tens of millions of
customers around the world," said Jeff Wilke, senior vice president for North
American retail at Amazon.
"Amazon Currency Converter makes it significantly easier for our customers,
regardless of where they live, to purchase from Amazon.com."
The company claimed that the tool will allow customers to see the final
purchase price before completing a transaction, rather than having to wait for
their card statement.
The converter currently supports the Australian dollar, Danish krone, euro,
Hong Kong dollar, Japanese yen, New Zealand dollar, Norwegian krone, UK pound,
South African rand, Swedish krona and Swiss franc.
Amazon said that it will add further currencies over time.
